C. & E. Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School Mourns the Passing of Reverend Harutyun Khachatryan

C. & E. Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School is saddened to announce the passing of Reverend Harut Khachatryan, senior pastor at United Armenian Congregational Church (UACC) and former member of the Merdinian Board of Directors, who passed away on January 19, 2024.

“Referred to as the Pastor of our school, Rev. Harut is one of the most beloved members of the Merdinian community and a pillar of Merdinian’s vibrant spiritual life,” says Merdinian principal Dr. Souzy Ohanian. “Rev. Harut’s passion for connecting students to the Word of God and dedication to the pastoral care of the entire school community added a foundational element to our campus for our students, faculty, and staff. His devotion to providing Biblical perspectives to the Board of Directors was also deeply felt and greatly respected. He will be missed beyond measure. We will continue to pray for Rev. Harut’s family during this devastating time.”



Merdinian board chair Nerses Aposhian expressed, “Rev. Harut will forever live on in our hearts and memories. He was not just a great spiritual leader, but also a wonderful mentor and friend. His contributions as a Merdinian board member were invaluable, and his legacy will continue to inspire us. We will miss him greatly.”


Throughout his life, Rev. Harut kept God’s promise to Joshua as his own: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord you God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).


Rev. Harut is survived by his wife, Aylin, and their two sons, Joseph and Samuel.
